After independence people of the region call it as the academic capital of the state. The second biggest city of Assam, Jorhat is 310-km east of Guwahati. It is well connected by road, railways and air. The city is located near the serene surroundings of Kaziranga National Park and Majuli, the biggest river island. The college is situated by the river Bhogdoi, a tributary of the mighty river Brahmaputra.
