The department of MCA was established in the year 1987 and it is the first course of its kind to be introduced in the North-Eastern region. The MCA course is a 3 years full time course covering six semesters. This department has an intake capacity of 30 students.
Academic Curriculum:
This MCA course offered by the college is designed as per the guidelines laid down by the AICTE. The curriculum is divided into 6 semesters. In each semester, apart from the classroom works, the students are required to complete exhaustive laboratory works to help them get a better understanding of the subject matters. The sixth semester is entirely devoted to a system project work to be carried out in a business/industrial organization.
Entry Eligibility and Admission Procedure:
Students for the postgraduate courses are selected strictly on the basis of their results of an entrance test conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education, Govt. of Assam. For appearing in the entrance test a candidate must hold a bachelor degree in any discipline with at least 45% marks. Studied and passed Mathematics at (10+2) level.

Infrastructure:
The department is having a well equipped computer centre which provides the computing facilities to the students of the college. In the computer centre, there is at present around 25 PCs and all of them have been networked locally through LAN. The students are mainly working with the latest operating systems such as Linux, Windows 2000 Prof., Windows 98se, etc. The application programming which the students learn over here and which is required in the three-year degree course are:
C, C++, ORACLE, VISUAL BASIC, Active Server Pages, JAVA,, NETWORK. PROGRAMMING IN LINUX, LINUX INTERNALS

Library Facilities:
The department has a well maintained library under the supervision of our HOD. The library contains a large collection of books, journals, various project reports on specialized fields and magazines related to the fields of computer and information technology.
The department also has a training and consultancy cell which is mainly dealing Govt. /Public Sectors/Private Organizations like Wipro, HCL, ONGC, OIL, ISRO, BHEL, HP, C-DOT, SAIL, CDAC, NRL, etc. and some of the students of this department are presently working in some multinational companies abroad such as Microsoft, Sun Microsystems and two of our students are also working in Space Research Laboratory NASA, and also some in National Aerospace Laboratory (NAL) situated in Bangalore.
